I participated in Art Slam on Feb. 9. I did not win. Yes, I had fun. Whew! Two hours flat out is crazy. I put my head down and pretty much ignored everyone. Scott (my husband) was my "bodyguard." He fielded all questions & inquiries. When it was done I felt boneless and like jello all over. But it was invigorating and I'm ready to do it again. I kinda felt like getting a box of squid on a cooking show, then having to cook a tasty meal out of it. I would encourage anyone and everyone to give it a try. It challenges all your ideas about art and what it ‘should or should not’ be or look like. Great perspective and/or paradigm shifter.”

“On January 19, 2024, an opening reception was held for my show in the Members Gallery at the Blue Ridge Arts Center in Seneca. The show hung until February 23. In October 2023, I traveled to Edisto Beach for the Edisto Beach Plein Air Paintout. At the closing show, I sold both of the paintings I had done that week.”

Sue West

“In October I participated in the annual Edisto Island Plein Air competition. After the judging and awards, the exhibit was open to the public. I was fortunate enough to sell my piece to a lovely woman from the island.”

“I completed three artworks and one commission piece (fish pen and ink drawing, pictured), conducted two painting workshops in collaboration with Jill Strickland of Strickland Fine Art, was a Juror for the Youth Art Month Exhibit 2024, and completed six small artworks for the Michelin Project.”

Evelyn Beck

“I had a solo show at the Spartanburg County Library. I exhibited in Anderson, Charlotte, Asheville and North Augusta with the Upcountry Fiber Artists. And my piece Rice Field (pictured) won an award and sold at our juried show.”

“I recently attended a four-day class ‘Design Hacks—Playing with Color’ and an ‘Introduction to Resin Art Pouring: Tray Workshop’ at the Purple Crayon in Asheville, N.C. The class and workshop were presented by Asheville artists Kim Smith and Robin Crawford, respectively. In the fall of 2023, I and a group of local artists started meeting monthly at the Clemson Area African American Museum. We hope to provide an opportunity to assist each other on our individual artistic journeys. And I am currently experimenting outside of my comfort zone by combining images and/or texture (multi-media) in my paintings with and without acrylic pours (pictured).”
